We had far too many and the plan was to make a liqueur. Blackcurrants make a wonderful boozy drink called Cassis, perfect for Christmas, when it should be ready for drinking. KIR Royale, a mixture of Cassis and Champagne will never EVER be forgotten, once tasted. It’s the perfect cocktail at a party for two…………preferably in Paris!!
Anyway, the Blackbirds seemingly had a similar notion. As the damp evening drew in, Mr. Big put in an appearance amongst the blackcurrants and SMUG was written all over his face!
To see him drooling drunkenly in the bushes, almost unable to move with the feed of fruit inside him, made me reach for the camera and I even caught him with the evidence in his big orangey gob!
A fair swop I thought.

I love coming to visit you. It seems to always be one adventure after the other and I enjoy them so much….
That is so funny about the black bird…Obviously he was beating you to the punch but looks it looks like you got some to make your Cassis in time for Christmas…..

Beautiful post Catherine – love Kir – whether Royale or otherwise! And blackcurrants are my favourite soft fruit, whether in a crumble, jam, or just stewed. Good luck this evening ( my son is also a finalist in 2 categories ).I wish you all the very best – will be happy for both or either of you to take honours!
Foxglove Lane Studio says
Thanks and would dearly love to meet up with "Silver Voice Junior" if he is there, what category is he in……I'm just so darn curious!!

Oh I would love to try cassis – probably will never have enough black currants from my two tiny bushes! Such a beautiful blackbird – he really looks like he belongs right where he is.

O the first picture of the blackbird in the blackcurrants is amazing!!! I have only 3 black currant bushes of which I make black currant juice for winter days. I also once made liquor of it, like my grandma used to do a long time ago. And a Kir (Royale), yes, a lovely sweet drink. Cheers!
Rustic Vintage Country says
haha, love the drunken blackbird! Your drink sounds absolutely delicious, yum and the odd hic! x
Rowan says
The blackbirds invariably get to my blackcurrents before I do:) I don't begrudge them really – the bushes are old and need replacing so the fruit is sparse anyway. Great photos.

The fun of critter encounters in the garden. I have never had the drink you speak of our black currants….I feel I am missing out!

The early bird gets a butt load of currants. Just gorgeous captures, my friend.
